First time use routine for your Lelit PL51 and PL042 LET

Prime the Machine
(Reason: All machines are shipped without water in the boiler.)

The main practical reason to prime your machine is to prevent damage from freezing during shipping. Without water in the boiler, the heating element can be quickly damaged from heat stress without sufficient water in the boiler.
1. Fill the water reservoir up with fresh, cold water. Important: Make sure that all hoses are submerged and free of kinks or other obstructions, and that the inlet hose reaches to the bottom of the reservoir if so designed.
2. Make sure all switches are in the OFF position. Plug machine in.
3. Place a container under the steam wand. Turn steam knob to the OPEN position.
4. Turn on machine. IMMEDIATELY turn on Coffee/Brew Switch, or the Hot Water Switch if so equipped.
5. The pump will initially sound noisy, but it should quiet down within approximately 10 seconds. The water level should begin to drop in the reservoir.
6. Close the steam valve once the water begins to flow. Turn off the coffee/brew or hot water switch once water flows out of brew head. The espresso machine is now primed. Continue to run about a cup of water through the boiler and the group to thoroughly flush the system prior to using.
7. VERY IMPORTANT! Shut machine off after 1 minute if water does not appear. Wait 5 minutes for machine element to cool down. Repeat. Check for water under your machine, which would indicate a leak. If the espresso machine will not prime, contact us for further instructions.

Semi-Annually routine maintenance for your Lelit PL53 and PL042 LET

General   As always, follow all routine maintenance procedures listed above.
Re-calibrate your
machine
Calibrate your machine's brewing temperature and pump pressure

Annually routine maintenance for your Lelit PL53 and PL042 LET

General   As always, follow all routine maintenance procedures listed above.
Group Gasket   The gasket may become worn over a period of time, and will need to be replaced.
A good indication that this gasket needs to be replacement is when the portafilter returns beyond its normal position, or additional water leaks out around the group head during the brewing process, even though the portafilter is properly installed and snug.
Descale your
machine
Descale your espresso machine once a year.
No matter how good your water filtration may be, you're still getting calcium in your boiler tank.
While small amounts of calcium won't alter the flavor of your espresso too much, over time that small amount will grow into a large amount causing a very bitter flavor in your cup and eventually causing damage to your machine.
